Diminishing reserves of fossil raw materials and global warming demand new materials and technologies for regenerative power engineering, energy storage and conversion as well as new carbon-neutral and energysaving technologies. The FMF works on regenerative energies in close collaboration with the Physics Department and the Freiburg Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE).

Current research topics are:

  • Organic and perovskite solar cells
  • Thermoelectric energy conversion
  • Polyelectrolytes and new materials for battery systems
  • Latent heat accumulators ("phase change materials")
  • Electroactive materials and polymer semiconductors
  • Materials for microenergy technology
  • Materials for bio-fuel cells
  • Polymers from carbon dioxide
  • Resource-effcient procedures and "green" chemistry.
