Materials design inspired by Nature
The forum BIONICS organises research at the FMF for the development of biomimetic materials using plants as a source of ideas for concept development. The specifc objective is to develop new, functional, hierarchically structured systems inspired by nature. The FMF links through the forum BIONIK with national and international groups. In collaboration with the Forest and Environmental Science Department new biomaterials are designed on the basis of renewable resources.
Current research topics are:
- Self-repairing polymers for light-weight engineering and sealants
- Bio-inspired fibre-reinforced composites
- Biomimetic impact and puncture protection
- Biomimetic adhesives
- Wood/Polymer composites
- Use of renewable resources
