Organic and Perovskite Solar Cells

Welcome to our group "Organic- and Perovskite Solar Cells", led by Dr. Uli Würfel at the Freiburg Materials Research Centre (FMF). We are working on the development and characterisation of new types of solar cells.

Roll to Roll coating

Research into innovative photovoltaic technology opens up new prospects, especially with regard to cost reduction potentials and new fields of application in the use of solar energy. Organic and perovskite solar cells are promising technological approaches that have been pursued in recent years. They represent new types of solar cells based on entirely different principles than conventional semiconductor solar cells. The basis for production is cost-effective thin-film technology, already used in industrial processing of glass and polymers. This holds the potential of economically attractive manufacturing.

Properties such as transparency and coloring as well as mechanical flexibility of solar cells can be adapted to the desired characteristics of specific products, enabling completely new applications in the field of photovoltaics.

The group "Organic- and Perovskite Solar Cells" closely collaborates with Prof. Stefan W. Glunz, Prof. Andreas Bett and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE).
