Prof. Dr. Ingo KrossingA chemical construction kit for binding activation!

The work of Krossing et al. is a bit like playing Lego: a customized substance class can be generated from prefabricated ingredients to activate the desired molecules.

In the long term, this should enable a transition metal-like catalysis with the readily and sustainably available main group metal gallium.

As Professor of Molecular and Coordination Chemistry and a member of the Freiburg Cluster of Excellence livMats Living, Adaptive and Energy-autonomous Materials Systems, Krossing conducts research into ionic systems ranging from reactive cations to ionic liquids, from electrochemical energy storage to the development of uniform acid and reduction scales.

Ingo Krossing has held the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Freiburg since 2006. He is a member of FIT, the Freiburg Center for Interactive Materials and Bioinspired Technologies and the Freiburg Materials Research Center. He has also been a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities since 2020. Krossing was awarded the ERC Advanced Grant.
